Frequently Asked Questions

Central Park is the biggest park, right?

Pelham Bay Park is over three times bigger than Central Park at 2,772 acres to Central Park’s 843 acres. Pelham Bay Park is the biggest park in the New York City park system.

The water at Orchard Beach is pretty murky, does that mean it’s dirty?

NYC Parks works very hard to keep Orchard Beach clean! You can check the most recent water quality tests during the beach season if you’re curious, but if it’s not safe to swim, the beach will close. The murkiness is all-natural: sand and silt being stirred up by the movement of the Long Island Sound.

I lost something of vital importance. How can I get it back?! Where is Lost & Found?

Oh no! We’re so sorry. Hopefully, someone has turned in your lost object to the NYC Parks offices in the park.
if you were in the south part of the park, in the area near the 6 train, please call 718-319-7256.
If you were at Orchard Beach, please call 718-885-2275.

How do I reach the Urban Park Rangers?

The quickest and easiest way to see what the Urban Park Rangers are up to is to check their section on the NYC Parks website. You can register for their events, learn more about their programs, and more!

I want to have a birthday party / baby shower / family reunion / memorial / wedding / film shoot / rave / walkathon /mud run / baptism / miscellaneous gathering in the park. What do I do?
