Parks make New York City livable. But targeted budget cuts have depleted NYC Parks' resources in a time of great need, leading to program closures, staffing shortages, and unsafe conditions.

The Play Fair for Parks Coalition (we’re members)  is rallying together to send a loud and clear message: NYC must restore and grow the Parks Department budget to ensure clean, safe, and accessible green spaces for all.

Kids Shows: Workshop in Bachata & Merengue

Kids Shows: Workshop in Bachata & Merengue

Merengue and Bachata are two genres of dance that have their roots in the Dominican Republic but have gained popularity worldwide. Bachata is a style of dance and music that originated in the 1960s. It is known for a low bluesey rhythm, which focuses on the guitars and guira and bongo drums. On the other hand, Merengue is fast-paced and lively, with a fuller band and emphasis on the Tambora beat. Although these genres have differences, they share a common trait - they’re guaranteed to get you moving!

Edwin Manuel Ferreras Madrigal is a knowledgeable and enthusiastic educator of music, dance, and ethnomusicology. He works as an international teaching artist with partner Dakhóta Romero and as a Music and Dance teacher in NYC public and charter schools grades Pre-K through 8th.

Kids Shows: City Parks Foundation’s PuppetMobile: Cinderella Samba

Cinderella Samba takes place in the lush landscape of Brazil, where, thanks to the help of her fairy godmother, Cinderella attends Rio de Janeiro’s biggest Carnaval gala and dances the samba with Prince Paulo. The lively production features an original commissioned musical soundtrack that brings samba center-stage; handcrafted Carnaval festival floats on parade; and one-of-a-kind marionettes donning their most vibrant celebration costumes, created by the expert puppeteers from the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre in Central Park.

City Parks Foundation (CPF) is the only independent, nonprofit organization whose mission is to offer programs in public parks throughout the five boroughs of New York City. At CPF, we are dedicated to invigorating and transforming parks into dynamic, vibrant centers of urban life through sports, arts, community development, and education programs for all New Yorkers. Our programs and community building initiatives -- located in more than 400 parks, recreation centers, and public schools across New York City -- reach 3005,000 people each year. Our ethos is simple: thriving parks mean thriving communities.

This event is free and open to the public. We’ll see you at the show!
